Top 10 Patterns from Lake Havasu

With water temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s, some bass were spawning, but many were still transitioning from their wintering grounds in deeper water. So, while Shaun Bailey caught his largemouths in 15 to 20 feet, David Valdivia boated smallmouths in less than 3 feet of water and Sean Minderman plucked largemouths from tules. Suffice to say, there was plenty of variety to be had on Havasu. READ MORE »

Havasu Midday Update – Day 3

With three days of fishing on Havasu mostly complete, it looks like we’re going to have to wait until weigh-in to figure out the winner. All week, weights in the Costa FLW Series presented by Ranger have been wicked tight, and despite less boat pressure and lovely weather, nobody is wrecking them on the final day. READ MORE »

Lake Havasu Top 5 Patterns – Day 2

Lake Havasu Top 5 Patterns – Day 2

Weights fell off pretty hard for the bulk of the field on day two of the Costa FLW Series presented by Ranger on Lake Havasu, but the top six all stayed pretty steady or improved dramatically from day one. Though the weather feels perfect for a big spawning push, the majority of the weight is coming from prespawn fish, and the cool water from the Colorado River has ensured that the lake doesn’t warm up too fast. Though some fish are certainly moving shallow, it looks like the final day will still be about finding them in transition as opposed to the final destination. READ MORE »

Another Prespawn Desert Battle

Another Prespawn Desert Battle

FLW fans have grown accustomed to the Costa FLW Series Western Division kicking off on Lake Havasu in recent years, and this year’s bout should be as good as ever. The tournament is presented by Ranger and hosted by the Lake Havasu City Convention & Visitors Bureau and features a full field of 154 boats – the largest Western Division field since 2013. It’s an increase in field size of about 20 percent over 2017 on a lake known for finicky fish, but the extra boats shouldn’t hurt things too badly – in 2015 the field was nearly 150 boats and 11th place actually weighed a pound more than in 2017.
