How to Find the Best Docks in Early Fall

How to Find the Best Docks in Early Fall

While there’s almost no bad time of year to find a dock pattern, early fall is a prime season for it. The catch is that as shad transition throughout a reservoir in the fall, some bass go on the move with them. So dialing in a key stretch of docks or a dock pattern can at times be challenging, particularly on lakes with a lot of docks. READ MORE »

How to Make a Swimbait a Line-Thru

How to Make a Swimbait a Line-Thru

Jake Lawrence thinks the line-thru swimbait is more versatile than many tournament anglers realize. The Kentucky Lake and Pickwick guide and 2018 Costa FLW Series Lake Barkley champion frequently chucks one any time bass are shallow to not only put big fish in the boat, but to catch five good ones in a day. Webster’s Late Fall Scenarios

Webster’s Late Fall Scenarios

By Late November across the country, a lot of people have switched their focus from chasing bass to watching football and going hunting. Jerkbait Actions and Cadences

Jerkbait Actions and Cadences

Your rod is a key element in getting the right cadence and action. I like a 6-foot, 10-inch Megabass Orochi spinning model. It’s long enough to make a lengthy cast, yet the rod is short enough to allow quick wrist snaps. READ MORE »

Table Rock Lake Top 10 Patterns

Table Rock Lake Top 10 Patterns

November on Table Rock usually offers excellent fishing as the water cools down into the low 60s and the bass put on the feedbag. This year, for the Costa FLW Series Championship, that wasn’t quite the case. An extended summer (the temperatures in practice approached record highs) kept the fish scattered between offshore summer patterns and shallow fall patterns, and as a result, the fishing was pretty tough. Top 5 Patterns from Norris Lake Day 2

Top 5 Patterns from Norris Lake Day 2

After an ultra-tough day one at the Walmart FLW Tour Invitational presented by Quaker State on Norris Lake, many pros commented that if the weather was colder, the fish would bite better. On day two, Mother Nature tested that theory with a 30-degree temperature drop, and as it turned out, the anglers were right. The sudden blustery chill helped produce 11 more limits over day one and 11 more bags over 10 pounds than on day one. READ MORE »

Top 10 patterns from Lake of the Ozarks

Top 10 patterns from Lake of the Ozarks

Lake of the Ozarks is giant and filled with cover, from about a billion docks to laydowns, brush piles and rock. For the competitors in the Costa FLW Series event presented by Evinrude, the sheer size of the fishery proved daunting at times, but in the end a stout group of locals and a few out-of-towners figured it out. Duke Jenkel largely hunkered down in one section of docks for the win, but he wasn’t the only one to catch ’em good. READ MORE »

He turned it around after that. Weighing 19-14 on day two, he moved to fifth place, then followed with 18-13 on the final day to finish in first place with a 52-5 total. It’s his second FLW win. One of only three pros from outside of Missouri in the top 10, Jenkel bested a group he described as “Ozark sharks” for the first-place prize of $38,815. READ MORE »

Top Five Patterns from Lake of the Ozarks Day 2

Fall hit Lake of the Ozarks in earnest today, and while some stumbled at the onslaught, others adjusted. In all, the pros that made the cut to fish the final day of the Costa FLW Series presented by Evinrude represent some of the best talent the Ozarks have to offer and are stacked as tight as can be. Brian Maloney may be in the lead now, but the top three pros are only separated by 6 ounces, and with the lake fishing as well as it has, tomorrow is anyone’s game. READ MORE »
