Robertson Looking for Redemption

Robertson Looking for Redemption

Darrel Robertson was disgusted with himself. The Jay, Okla., pro and 1999 Forrest Wood Cup champion had just finished a disappointing 74th at the last FLW Tour event of the season on the Potomac River. He was out of the money and seemingly out of contention for a coveted spot in the 2017 Cup at Lake Murray. READ MORE »

Top 10 Baits from the Potomac River

Top 10 Baits from the Potomac River

The usual offerings at the Potomac River are pretty standard, and there wasn’t anything too surprising about the baits the top pros used in the FLW Tour presented by Costa Sunglasses. If anything, crankbaits probably got more play than expected, and some pros definitely saw success fishing them around grass edges and over the top – places where you’d expect to see a swim jig or vibrating jig do most of the work. Top 10 Baits from the Mississippi River

Top 10 Baits from the Mississippi River

Beautiful, sunny weather during practice gave way to cold fronts, rain and rising water once the tournament kicked off. For anglers still drying out from the deluge at Beaver lake, jigs and soft plastics again became the predominant baits when things turned tough and the weather turned sour. Swing heads, shaky heads, and creature baits also figured prominently in pros’ arsenals. READ MORE »

Herb Wins Co-Angler Title

25-year-old Cole Herb of Cedar Rapids, Iowa stood on the stage Friday at the FLW Tour presented by Evinrude on the Mississippi River, waiting stoically as day one co-angler leader Tim Beale’s bag was weighed. Beaver Lake Top 10 Baits

Beaver Lake Top 10 Baits

Torrential rain, rising water levels and wildly fluctuating conditions made for a tough and unpredictable bite during the FLW Tour event on Beaver Lake presented by General Tire. Many pros discovered that what might have worked in practice didn’t work at the tournament’s start, and what might have worked at the start didn’t work at the end. It was that kind of tournament – a scramble to find something, anything, to catch just enough fish to survive and advance in extremely tough conditions. READ MORE »

Day 3 of Practice with Mr. Beaver Lake

Day 3 of Practice with Mr. Beaver Lake

Much like the protagonist in a certain children’s book, Matt Arey is having a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad practice. The veteran Quaker State pro, who won FLW Tour events here in 2014 and 2015, will be the first to admit that his practice days for the FLW Tour event presented by General Tire have not gone to plan. Top 10 Baits from Lake Cumberland

The weather started out wet and rainy and ended up sunny and beautiful, but despite the wildly varying conditions at the FLW Tour event presented by T-H Marine at Lake Cumberland, bait selection for the top 10 pros remained fairly consistent. A few pros threw jigs and worms, but jerkbaits and spinnerbaits fished tight to the bank along the sprawling reservoir’s many coves and cuts were the majority choices for the last-day anglers.
