Avena Leads Day One Of Walmart FLW Tour On Potomac River Presented By Ranger Boats

MARBURY, Md. (June 25, 2015) – Pro angler Adrian Avena of Vineland, New Jersey, brought a five-bass limit to the scale Thursday weighing 16 pounds, 12 ounces to take the lead after day one of the Walmart FLW Tour at the Potomac River presented by Ranger Boats. Avena will start the second day of competition with a 1-pound, 6-ounce lead in the nationally televised four-day tournament, hosted by the Charles County Board of Commissioners, that features 142 of the top bass-fishing anglers in the world competing for a... Practice with Adrian Avena

Practice with Adrian Avena

Adrian Avena might not have the years on the water that some of the other locals have, but he’s currently sitting eighth in the AOY race and calculates that he only needs to catch one keeper to make the Forrest Wood Cup. I was happy to jump in the boat with him and co-angler Ian Renfrew for a few hours on the final day of practice for the Walmart FLW Tour event on the Potomac. READ MORE »

Toho Midday Report Day 2

Toho Midday Report Day 2

If you’ve been following the FLW On The Water feed, you might have seen a slight uptick in the reports in the last hour or so. A crisp north wind, which was cold enough to force many anglers into their rain gear this morning, seems to have tapered off to a breeze. Down south on Kissimmee the sun is shining. And as the weather has improved, so too has the bite – as evidenced by the sudden surge in fish-catching reports. The increase in action is good news for many anglers who experienced slower fishing this morning than yesterday. Stacey King, who came into today in second place, is among that group. Unfortunately for day-one leader JT Kenney, “slow” for King is still pretty good. He’s got a limit, including a pair of 4-pounders, and has already culled. That makes King our unofficial leader right now. READ MORE »

There’s no telling how many times I’ve sat in my boat after dark or before daybreak trying to find a bait in a locker or spooling new line. All the while I’d be holding a Maglite in my mouth or trying to adjust a headlamp where I need the light. READ MORE »

Avena weighs in: Just roll with it

Avena weighs in: Just roll with it

On the water, every cast brings a different scenario. A point may come up, there might be a rock on a bank that you stumble upon, a fish may have just busted through the water or you suddenly see a brush pile come up on your Lowrance that you just ran over. The list of different fishing possibilities goes on and on, most of which requires a different presentation. As a result, having the bait of choice at your feet ready to be picked up and fired out there with only the bend of your knees could result in a game changing bass. READ MORE »

Avena weighs in: The danger of preconceived notions

Every anglers’ dream is to roll up to the spot they found during their practice period, take a few casts and catch nothing but "ga ga ga giant bass" like Dave Mercer will say. Unfortunately, more times than not, these types of days do NOT happen … at least for me. READ MORE »
