It was another cloudy, cool morning to start day two of the Toyota Series Southwestern Division event on Toledo Bend. With water temperatures hovering around 52 degrees, the fish weren’t in much of a biting mood throughout much of the morning.

However, fourth-place pro Cody Huff was one of the few anglers boxing fish early. Scanning around with his electronics and casting a jigging spoon at fish he marked, Huff had a limit worth 15 pounds or so, which included a 5-pounder, by 10:30 this morning.

“Any bite before noon is just a bonus,” Huff says. The Missouri pro did most of his work yesterday afternoon and believes it’ll be the same way today. Except he’s off to a much better start than he was yesterday, so he has a good chance of improving on his 20-pound, 6-ounce limit from day one.

Billy Hurt, who sits in seventh place with 18 pounds yesterday, was still looking to break the ice as of 10 o’clock. He was soaking on a point up the lake waiting for the school to pull up and feed, which he says is usually between noon and 2 p.m., so he’s got plenty of time to get right.

The bulk of fishing attention is still around offshore structure, despite some solid bags coming shallow yesterday. With the cooler weather, most pros are holding out hope that the afternoon bite will fire much as it has the last several days.

We were unable to get with any of the other top pros, mostly due to the fact the vast majority of them are running and gunning and utilizing a good chunk of the lake. That being said, the majority of the top pros from yesterday relied on key big bites they got late in the day, so certainly some culling will be done this afternoon.

The weights are stacked pretty tight from top to bottom and two or three of the right bites this afternoon could help launch someone from the middle of the pack into the top-10 cut for Saturday. With weights as tight as they are, this afternoon's weigh-in should be interesting. Tune in at 3 p.m. CT to see who will make the cut, but also for the very real possibility of seeing some true Toledo Bend giants.
