UPCOMING EVENT: FLW Pro Circuit - 2020 - Sam Rayburn Reservoir

From time to time, FLW checks in with its anglers to find out what they've been up to, what they're listening to, who they're following and where they're heading while out on the tournament trail. This week, we caught up with Josh Douglas.

What are you up to lately?

I’m fishing. I’m guiding at Mille Lacs. This is my favorite time of year. I like guiding as much as I like the tournament season. I’m just back at home and doing it up. The fishing is pretty good.

Where are you headed next?

I’ll be here until I go to Champlain (for the FLW Tour event in June). Man, I’m pretty excited for it. I’ll be doing this – fishing for shallow Northern smallies – for three weeks, and I expect to do this when I get to Champlain. I’m licking my chops and just hoping to finish strong and get to the Cup.

What are you listening to these days?

My wife (Bri) is a podcaster when we drive so whatever she’s got on. For me, it’d be kind of an odd mix of country and rap music. Depends on my mood that day I think.

Who are you following on social media right now?

Bass fishing. All I do is fish, so I follow bass fishermen, and I follow tackle companies. I like food, too. I like @thefeedfeed, and keto recipes. And barbecue companies; people that do competition food. I’m all in on it. Food and fishing are my two favorite things.

What bait or technique are you trying to master right now?

The spy bait. I’ve caught fish now for about a year on the spy bait; some of my biggest ones. I’ve caught them super shallow to really deep. Now I’m just trying to figure out when and where and why and what it is about the spy bait that draws them into it so dang much. It either catches tiny perch or 5- and 6-pound smallies. My biggest thing with the spy bait, once I figure out how to catch them, is how to not lose them – what the perfect presentation is to not lose them. They’re easy to lose on that bait.
