Catch Fish, Cure Childhood Cancer

Catch Fish, Cure Childhood Cancer

There may never have been a better excuse to go fishing than curing childhood cancer. Now, if you participate in the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF) All American Fishing Tournament, you can help be a part of funding critical research to do just that.

The All American Fishing Tournament is a one-of-a-kind multi-species nationwide event. It started April 6 and ends Sept. 28. Participants can target 10 species of freshwater and saltwater fish during the tournament, with prizes of $500, $300 and $200 awarded for the three largest catches of each species.

But you don’t even have to catch anything to win. Everyone who registers for the tournament is entered to win a Power-Pole shallow-water anchor, a Hubbard’s Marina 39-hour fishing trip and a Florida Fishing Product’s Reel Package. The angler who logs the most largemouth bass over the course of the tournament will also win a Power-Pole, as will the angler with the most spotted sea trout (limit 10 entries per day per species).

Tournament registration is $25. Results are tracked using the iAngler Tournament app, where catch photos and measurements can be uploaded. Prizes will be awarded during a live-streamed ceremony this fall.

For complete rules or to register, visit fishingfundsthecure.org. You can find more information about the tournament and NPCF at facebook.com/nationalpediatriccancer or facebook.com/fishingfundsthecure.

AOY Update: Lake Chickamauga

AOY Update: Lake Chickamauga

Though Jacob Wheeler won the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit Super Tournament on Lake Chickamauga in grand style, his win didn’t impact the Angler of the Year standings. Only the original Pro Circuit anglers were competing for AOY points. That means the AOY focus is still on Ron Nelson, who slipped off his blazing pace a bit, but still holds the lead heading into the final two regular-season events in July and August on the Mississippi River and the Detroit River, respectively. Roaming Chick with Cole Floyd

Despite living in Ohio until joining the Bethel University fishing team, it hasn’t taken long for the young phenom to make his mark on the Tennessee River, from Kentucky Lake to Guntersville, Pickwick to Chickamauga. Floyd was gracious enough to allow me to ride along with him for the first day of practice on Chickamauga for a firsthand look at how he’s preparing to get the job done. READ MORE »

Several Patterns in Play at Ouachita BFL

Several Patterns in Play at Ouachita BFL

FLW has a long history of hosting multiple-day summertime tournaments on Lake Ouachita, where pros have to grind it out for three days in what are usually tough conditions. On June 27, when the Phoenix Bass Fishing League presented by T-H Marine Arkie Division takes to Ouachita, the Natural State’s best bass anglers will need to game plan a little differently. With only one day to fish and a three-bass limit, they’ll have to swing for the fences with big-bass patterns to have a shot at winning. READ MORE »

Top 10 Patterns from Lake Eufaula

Top 10 Patterns from Lake Eufaula

Josh Stracner won the 2020 Toyota Series Southeastern Division event on Lake Eufaula by fishing offshore. He targeted deep ledges in the mid-lake area for two days before switching to brush piles in 12 to 15 feet on the final day when a front moved through and replaced still, sunny conditions with wind and overcast skies. The rest of the top 10, with one exception, also fished offshore in what turned out to be a pretty typical June ledge-fishing tournament.  READ MORE »

Top 10 Baits from Lake Eufaula

Top 10 Baits from Lake Eufaula

June on Eufaula is ledge season. Well, mostly. Nine of the top 10 in the Toyota Series Southeastern Division event at Eufaula fished offshore, but targets included ledges, brush piles, standing timber and some “in-between” offshore structure where bass stopped in transition from the bank to out deep. One pro even fished exclusively shallow. Here are the baits they used to make the cut. READ MORE »
