Andre Dickneite’s boat was a good place to be on the final day of the Costa FLW Series presented by Evinrude on Lake of the Ozarks. While Dickneite surged to the win on the pro side, Steve Grizzle put three fish for 7 pounds, 15 ounces in the boat to do the same on the co-angler side. With a total of 27-12 for 11 keepers, Grizzle earned his first FLW win, $5,000 and a new Ranger Z175 with a 90-horsepower outboard.

“It’s awesome, it was a complete surprise,” says Grizzle. “I struggled down here three weeks in a row fishing other tournaments, and I decided I’d jump in the Costa to see if I could learn something and my boaters put me on fish.”

Fishing with Al Schultz on day one and Bill Tervin on day two, Grizzle managed a key limit with Tervin to put himself in striking distance for the final day.

While his boaters plied the innumerable docks on Lake of the Ozarks, Grizzle tossed a 5/16-ounce Crock-O-Gator Shaker Pro Head with a twin tail grub toward the bank.

“I was pulling it over ledges right on the bank,” says Grizzle. “All my key fish came on that – my boaters were all fishing docks and I was trying to stay away from them.”

Though he picked up a few fish off docks, going off the beaten path worked to a T for the first-time FLW Series co-angler, who has now cashed a check in three of seven events with FLW.

“This is my first year fishing BFL events as a boater, and I came up just short in the last tournament of the season,” says Grizzle, who’s got momentum on his side now. “I’m looking forward to the Wildcard on Kentucky Lake.”
