On Tuesday, June 20, FLW will be assisting the Boy Scouts of America Greater New York Councils with a youth fishing derby in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. The event, called Hooked on Scouting, could introduce up to 500 urban youths to the sport of fishing and is part of a larger effort by both organizations to get more kids outdoors and enjoying nature activities.
Zebco has donated 500 rod-and-reel combos for participants, while FLW Tour pro Tom Redington will be on hand to help teach participants how to use their new fishing equipment.
FLW will host a tournament-style weigh-in, as well as rides on its Ranger Boats simulator.
“This event is an opportunity for children in New York City to see the outdoors from different perspectives, including alongside a world-class professional,” says Ethan Draddy, CEO & Scout Executive, Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America. “We encourage all interested families to join us for this hands-on outdoor adventure so that they can see first-hand the types of unique experiences Scouting can offer.”
Interested youths can register for the event here. On-site registration begins at 5 p.m. ET at Prospect Park. The derby runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
