When the top 10 left the dock at Russo’s Marina this morning it was still anyone’s ballgame. A cloud bank rolled in overnight and the wind laid down, which kept the temperature fairly mild.
Leader Mike Birch ran to the Delta Cove first thing in the morning but only caught one small keeper. From there he started to run to several different spots and began catching fish. The big fish were elusive so far for Birch – that seemed to be the case for the rest of the field as well. When we last checked on Birch he had around 10 pounds.
Second place Charley Almassey had a similar weight but his better bites yesterday came later during low tide. Low tide is later today so it will a much smaller window for him to capitalize on his big bites.
Reports from others in the top 10 indicate a slow morning. Roy Hawk had the largest reported limit with 15 pounds. Robert Lee reported a slow day and Harvey Pulliam had a small limit. Pulliam made a long run north at 11:30 to return the to area he caught an 8-pounder yesterday.
Tune into weigh-in at 2:30 pm PT to see how it all goes down.
