Frontal conditions continue to plague the Cal Delta on day two of the Costa FLW Series and the fish are feeling the effects. Overnight lows were in the low 50s and scattered clouds have blanketed the region since sunrise. A crisp 20 mph wind ripped across the lake this morning as the anglers blasted off, but has slightly subsided since. To put it lightly, it was downright nippy out there.

Fishing is down across the board. Many anglers reported bass short striking or swiping at their baits. Some were still flipping, but many opted for throwing moving baits due to the increased wind. Vibrating jigs, crankbaits and swimbaits were the most prominent lures.

As the day progressed and the wind died down a bit, more anglers were spotted Power-Poled down looking at bedding fish. Many anglers were hopeful the low tide at the end of the day would better the bite.

Day one leader Mike Birch was among those feeling the effects of the front. He had his limit within an hour of fishing, but those five fish weighed less than his first bass caught yesterday. Culling his way up by junk fishing, Birch had 14 pounds by 10:30 a.m.

There will likely be a shake up in the leaderboard. Tune in to weigh-in at 2:00 pm PT to see who will make the cut for the top 10 to fish on Saturday.
