It was an exciting morning at Brandon Elementary school in Lufkin, Texas when a few Walmart FLW Tour pros stopped in for a visit as part of the Get Outdoors. Go Fish! project through the FLW Foundation. Koby Kreiger, James Watson, Robert Collins and Justin Morton all volunteered time out of their busy tournament schedule to talk with 200 third-, fourth- and fifth-grade boys.

During the first half of the morning the anglers spoke about the science, technology, engineering, math and meteorology that goes into preparing for a tournament. The anglers also encouraged an active lifestyle with time outside enjoying our nation’s rich natural resources. The youngsters were extremely inquisitive and asked all sorts of questions when it came time for the question-and-answer session. You could tell that there were many future anglers in the audience!

Once the students had learned the anglers’ favorite fishing holes and the largest fish they’ve ever caught, it was time to venture outside to see the anglers’ trucks and boats and learn about boating and water safety. The students literally raced outside to the boats and were jumping in excitement with how cool everything was.

Brandon Elementary school’s principal, Dr. Elizabeth Walter, commented on how fantastic the visit was and thanked the anglers for coming. “The children absolutely loved it; the fishermen were amazing, as were the boats,” she said. “This was a terrific experience for our students. Next year, we’d love to have you back!”
