Friends of a young Texas angler stricken with a rare disease are asking for donations from anglers and the fishing industry to help raise funds to cover his medical bills.
A fundraiser for David Cosner is set for Sunday, June 9 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nutty Brown Cafe on 290 West in Austin. The event will feature live music from various local artists as well as an ongoing raffle for various donated prizes. The admission fee is $20. Children under 12 accompanied by an adult will be admitted free.
Cosner, founder of the Texas State University Bass Club and a College All-America, has undergone more than 130 surgeries due to Wegner’s granulomatosis, an autoimmune disease that deteriorates the body’s immune system and causes internal organs to malfunction. Cosner, 23, was diagnosed with the disease when he was 16. More surgeries are anticipated.
In 2010, Cosner and his co-angler, Jay McCollum, came within 9 ounces of winning the first FLW College Fishing National Championship, which was won by the University of Florida.
