FLW Tour Recap: Detroit River

FLW Tour Recap: Detroit River

Detroit is such an incredible place to fish and I especially like it because it is the closest FLW Tour stop to my home in Erie, Pa., at only four hours. Although Lake Erie is where I usually like to go in tournaments out of Detroit, it never ceases to amaze me how different that section of the lake is compared to where I live; it is truly like night and day. WOODHAVEN, Mich. – With his spot in bass fishing history already secure, it would be easy for Larry Nixon to coast for a few years before riding off into retirement. But Nixon simply isn’t wired that way; the competitive fire still burns. This week at the Walmart FLW Tour Open on Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair, Nixon clinched his fourth FLW Tour win and his second on Lake St. Clair – a week before his 62nd birthday no less. READ MORE »

WOODHAVEN, Mich. – Bucking the normal trend of diminishing weights, Larry Nixon has improved his catch each day of the Walmart FLW Tour Open. Hasty houses St. Clair

WOODHAVEN, Mich. – As a veteran tournament angler, Dave Hasty has led several times only to let it slip away in the end. He’s lost a tournament because of an expired fish and he’s lost by the slimmest of margins (1 ounce). This week at the Walmart FLW Tour Open, he decided to fish from the back deck for a change. And as it turned out, his luck changed too. READ MORE »

TRENTON, Mich. – Over the course of a four-day bass-fishing tournament, daily weights tend to dwindle as fishing pressure mounts. However, at the Walmart FLW Tour on the Detroit River presented by the National Guard, the bite has gotten stronger and in general, the weights have gone up every day. Chevy pro Larry Nixon of Bee Branch, Ark., the legendary angler nicknamed “The General,” has followed that general trend and increased his weights every day of competition and now sits atop the leaderboard over the best bass pros in the world. TRENTON, Mich. – As expected, the smallmouth bite dominated on day one of the FLW Tour Open on the Detroit River presented by the National Guard. However, the bite was not as prolific as anticipated. TRENTON, Mich. – The pomp and circumstance of the 2012 Forrest Wood Cup has largely subsided. Left in its wake is the reality that the Walmart FLW Tour season still has three events (all Opens) remaining. While the pros will no longer be fishing for $500,000, they still have plenty to look forward to this week in Detroit – namely fat, feisty smallmouths. READ MORE »
