Stormin’ Norman

Lake Norman day-one practice

Sorry, FLW Fantasy Fishing players, but it was just too wet to break out the camera and get any footage of value today. Hopefully, the weather will lighten up a bit tomorrow, and we’ll work doubly hard on the video front to get you some visuals.

In and of itself, though, that’s important news if you’re still feeling around for clues on whom to pick. For this tournament, the equation says that cooler weather should mean more spawning fish. With the cold front, the temperature topped out at about 70 degrees here in Huntersville, N.C., today. That means the remaining spawning bass probably won’t be in any hurry to bolt from the beds quite yet. In other words, after day one of practice, advantage: sight-fishermen.

Once that thermometer starts cranking up toward 80 degrees here in North Carolina, though, that postspawn bite will become more of a factor. Wouldn’t you know it? They’re calling for 80-degree temps right about the middle of the tournament next week. So that could favor the guys who figure out that shallow cruiser bite, as opposed to those who are looking for them by sight.

So the bottom line is that the picture isn’t much clearer than when we started today. What should be clearer for sure, though, is tomorrow’s weather, so we’ll know more by Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned.
