Monsieur Monsoor masters Mississippi

Oines owns co-angler field on day three

RED WING, Minn. – Tom Monsoor knows that in the fickle world of professional bass fishing, it's better to be lucky than good. And fortunately for Monsoor, he was both lucky and good this week. After turning in a dismal performance on day one – a measly 3-pound, 10-ounce catch – Monsoor knew that he would need one of the best performances of his career to make the top-20 cut. With everything on the line, Moonsoor stepped up his game on day two, recording the biggest stringer of the tournament with a 13-pound, 5-ounce catch. Grabbing the 11th-place qualifying position heading into the semifinals, Moonsoor was determined to rise to the challenge for the remainder of the tournament. READ MORE »

Lee, Ramsey grab top spots in respective divisions for second consecutive day, stringer weights drop again

RED WING, Minn. – In the movie Ground Hog's Day, actor Bill Murray awakens each morning only to find out that he is reliving the same day over and over again. To be sure, the 330 anglers fishing the season opener of the EverStart Northern Division this week could sympathize. For the second day in a row, very little – if anything – had changed. The pro leader is the same – Howie Lee of Brooklyn Park, Minn. The co-angler leader is the same – Randy Ramsey of Riverside, Ill. The stifling heat and humidity have remained. And the difficult fishing conditions – high water levels, stingy bass bite and murky water – apparently are here to stay. READ MORE »

Lee latches onto lead at $210,000 EverStart tourney

Ramsey nets first place in Co-angler Division, Mississippi River proves to be a formidable foe for most anglers

RED WING, Minn. – Anglers can only hope that the rest of the 2002 Northern Division season won't be as brutal as today's competition on the Mississippi River. When all was said and done, a fickle bass bite, congestive barge traffic and high water levels all served to put a damper on today's stringer weights – some of the lowest ever recorded in the history of EverStart Northern Division competition. In fact, out of 330 anglers, only 26 caught five-fish limits – including only four limits in the entire Co-angler Division. READ MORE »
