UPCOMING EVENT: TOYOTA SERIES - 2020 - Lake Cumberland

Lake Seminole Midday Update – Day 2

Lake Seminole Midday Update – Day 2
Jared McMillan

A head-scratcher. That’s the best way to describe the day two morning at the Toyota Series Southern Division event on Lake Seminole. If you wonder why so many pros talk about how sensitive Lake Seminole is to fishing pressure, look at the second day of just about any event held there. For some reason, Seminole fish are just smart like that. They might bite well the first day, but they clam up the second day.

Jared McMillan's leading pattern

Despite perfect weather and water conditions, Seminole’s top names were struggling in the early going. Contact was made with guys like Jared McMillan, Jason Smith, Steven Hatala, Rodger Beaver, Jai Hunter, Brandon Medlock and Mason Boylan and zero or one bass was the report from all. However, both Mikey Keyso and Trevor Fitzgerald each reported having a 4- to 5-pound class kicker with some small keepers in the ‘well.

Most top pros were flipping hydrilla in Spring Creek. But the areas that are producing are getting a lot of trolling motor traffic. It’s a good bet all of these anglers have other stuff to go to, but they would rather grind it out on the common areas before showing their hand on an off the wall spot they might be saving for the last day.

The afternoon bite is bound to pick up, though. It usually does with grass fish when the sun gets higher and shadows get smaller. At this afternoon’s weigh-in it will be interesting to see how guys like Keith Poche, Derek Hicks and Jim Murray Jr. did running way up the Flint again.

Weigh-in starts live online at 3 p.m. ET, and only the top 10 will make the final day.
