College Fishing Returns June 14
Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by YETI

As the tournament season begins to ramp back up across the FLW tournament platforms, Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by YETI is also getting ready to get back in the swing of things come June 14 on Smith Mountain Lake. The Northern Conference event should be a good one as good quality largemouths and smallmouths are feeding back up to recuperate after the spawn, according to local angler Jack Dice.

“This year has been amazing because it seems like spring has just kept going and going,” says Dice, who won a Phoenix Bass Fishing League event on Smith Mountain back in March. “Right now, the water temperature is cooler than normal and because of that everything in the lake spawning right now. There is a shad spawn happening in the mornings, the bluegill are spawning and there are even a few bass that recently pulled up to spawn.

“For this tournament, there should be a bunch of fry guarders to be caught, but really there should be a perfect mix of everything going on by then. In the parts of the lake with dirtier water due to all the rain we’ve had it should help the shad-spawn bite last a little longer. There will be fish cruising around bluegill beds and there will be some fish deep. The teams can really fish however they like.”

With endless options for catching fish, no doubt this event will be a great way to kick the College Fishing season back off. Dice believes that the winning school will catch somewhere between 17 and 20 pounds, though he says he wouldn’t be surprised if someone brings a bag over 20 pounds to the scale.

So, for those college anglers chomping at the bit the get back on the water, this may be the perfect way to get your summer started. Plus, there’s no better road trip than to a lake loaded with bass and some of the best scenery you’ll get on a tournament fishery. Sign up today to get your tournament season started up again.
