Lake Havasu Midday Update – Day 3

Lake Havasu Midday Update – Day 3
Tai Au

It was another slow morning on Lake Havasu at the Toyota Series Western Division opener. Though, that was to be expected. Most of the top 10 pros have had their best luck in the middle of the day and early afternoon. Mornings have been tough.

Today’s conditions are partly cloudy with a steady south wind. The temperature is climbing, and there’s enough sunshin that it makes sense the bass would be returning to spawning areas later today. The beds were pretty barren all morning.

Tournament leader Tai Au caught a couple keepers in the first 90 minutes. Then we left him to chase other pros.

Jordan Collom, in second, caught his first keeper on a wacky rig, then got his second fishing a drop-shot around some floating docks.

Todd Kline is trying to make moves today. He has three keepers, with the smallest weighing close to 3 pounds. Kline started up the lake before running to Lake Havasu Marina, where he knows some giant fish live.

Kyle Grover started close to takeoff and caught a pair of early keepers. Clayton Eslick did the same, with the same result. Clayton Hugo also had two keepers when we left him around 11 a.m.

The best luck so far has been had by Tanner Austin, who’s exclusively fishing floating docks in Lake Havasu Marina. Austin has a limit for 13 1/2 to 14 pounds. He’s fishing extremely slow with finesse tackle.

We’ll find out whether the bite turns on this afternoon and which pro capitalizes when we weigh ’em and pay ’em at 3 p.m. PT. You can watch it live on the FLW website.

Kentucky Lake Could be Won Deep or Shallow

Kentucky Lake Could be Won Deep or Shallow

As we saw a couple weeks ago at the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit Super Tournament on Lake Chickamauga, the Tennessee River is capable of churning out big bags of bass both deep and shallow. We’ll probably be reminded of the Chickamauga event on July 18, when the Phoenix Bass Fishing League presented by T-H Marine LBL Division competes on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. Conditions should be similar, with both deep and shallow patterns in the mix.   READ MORE »

Top 10 Patterns from Lake Eufaula

Top 10 Patterns from Lake Eufaula

Josh Stracner won the 2020 Toyota Series Southeastern Division event on Lake Eufaula by fishing offshore. He targeted deep ledges in the mid-lake area for two days before switching to brush piles in 12 to 15 feet on the final day when a front moved through and replaced still, sunny conditions with wind and overcast skies. The rest of the top 10, with one exception, also fished offshore in what turned out to be a pretty typical June ledge-fishing tournament.  READ MORE »

Top 10 Baits from Lake Eufaula

Top 10 Baits from Lake Eufaula

June on Eufaula is ledge season. Well, mostly. Nine of the top 10 in the Toyota Series Southeastern Division event at Eufaula fished offshore, but targets included ledges, brush piles, standing timber and some “in-between” offshore structure where bass stopped in transition from the bank to out deep. One pro even fished exclusively shallow. Here are the baits they used to make the cut. READ MORE »

Lake Eufaula Midday Update – Day 3

Lake Eufaula Midday Update – Day 3

For the first two days of the Toyota Series Southeastern Division event at Lake Eufaula, the early morning bite was key for many of the top pros. It was almost common to hear comments from the top 10 anglers about catching 15 to 20 pounds within the first hour. Today, that’s changed. The first two hours of the day were actually pretty tough. There were some limits caught, but nobody lit up the leaderboard. READ MORE »
