1:30 - Things are slowing down and the weather is coming

The wind has begun to blow out of the north signaling the sign of the cold front that is supposed to blow in this afternoon. The has rain has settled in, and it could help get some big fish fired up. We made it to the marsh where Laramy Strickland won the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit event last week and to our surprise it was mostly vacant. Murray State’s defending College National Champion team of Adam Puckett and Blake Albertson were up there, though they only reported a small limit and said most of the people they talked to in the area hadn’t done much better.

We’re signing off for the day, but don’t forget to check out the weigh-in at 3 p.m. ET. Here’s a final report of the action from on the water.

Dallas Baptist University - Mark Harris and Reece Martin - three keepers, one is a 4-pounder

Gannon University - Aaron Bunting and Nolan Pyle - four keepers

Murray State - Adam Puckett and Blake Albertson - small limit

EKU - Blake Riley and Corey Elliot - two keepers

Florida State - Garret Sanders and Owen Kuhn - five for 14 pounds, one is a 6-pounder

Stephen F. Austin - Marc Ameringer and Cody Barchenger - limit, one is a 3-pounder

Tarleton State - Jacob David and Nick Prestwood - four keepers, one is a 3-pounder

Angelo State - Lance Culak and Steven Armstrong - three keepers

McKendree University - Trevor McKinney and Blake Jackson - three keepers, one is 4-pounder

Grand Canyon University - Tommy Sendek - one 4-pounder

Auburn - Chase Mundhenke and Blake Milligan - a limit worth 11 pounds

Murray State - Brendan Bingham and Hunter McKinley - four keepers for 11 pounds

12:00 Some rain and plenty of fish

Just as we started typing this update it started to sprinkle a bit in Lake Eustis, but it's very light, and really just overcast now. The fishing still seems good across the board, and we've got more than a few really good starts to report now. We haven't checked in the marsh in Griffin yet, but we're headed there now. So, expect the next update to give some idea of what's going down where Laramy Strickland won the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit event.

USC - John Malone-Grippe and Taylor Turnage - one 2-pounder

McKendree University - Tyler Christy and Devon Rathbun - four for 14 pounds

California University of Pensylvania - two small ones, one 2-pounder

Columbus State - Jacob Wood and Doug Stephens - 17 pounds, one is a 7-pounder

Adrian College - Caleb Dachenhaus and Hayden Scott - four for 10 pounds, one is a 5-pounder

Adrian College - Chase Serafin and Gunner Wilson - a limit for 9 pounds

Northwestern State - Maguire Parker and Wes Rollo - five for 11 pounds

11:00 - Conditions changing and big fish are starting to bite

For the most part this morning has been relatively calm and partly sunny, which hasn't helped the bite in Griffin much. Several teams have reported zero or one fish, blaming the lack of wind for hurting the reaction bite. That should change here soon, though, as the clouds build and the breeze is starting to pick up. Across the chain the offshore grass seems to be what most of the schools are keyed in on and that bite could get better as the afternoon wears on and the chance of rain builds. Here’s a look at some of the other teams we've caught up with this far.

University of Akron - Josh Kelly and Jonathan Harter - limit worth about 9 pounds

Lander University - Drew Pridgen and Chasten Beck - limit worth 9 pounds

Brewton- Parker College - Noah Ziadie and Reese Kingston - four keepers for 10 pounds

Greenville University - Cale Jausel and Jordan Phillips - three keepers

Emanuel College - Jonah Gilbert and Joe Mitchell - added a 2-pounder, now have four keepers

Bryan College - Justin Botts - a limit with two small ones, a 2 1/2-pounder, a 3 and a 6-6

Mississippi State - Cody Peak and Landon Cook - one keeper

Carson Newman University - Maddux Walters and Lee Rose Koza - two keepers, lost three

Grand Valley State - Lucas Murphy and William Mathews - no fish

Bethel University - Tristan McCormick and Dakota Pierce - three keepers

10:00 - It's lovely and the fish are biting

So far, things really couldn't be going better for the start of the championship. The fish appear to be biting pretty well, as nearly every boat has at least a few keepers, and the weather is perfect. Folks have been fishing in Harris for more than an hour now, and the anglers are starting to fill up the flats on Griffin now as well. Overall, the fishing seems to be best off the bank early, and there was definitely a morning flurry. Below is a rundown of teams we've run into so far.

Bowling Green - Cameron Wilt and Jamesen Simion - three keepers for about 6 pounds

SFA - Cooper Thor and Cade Rudiger - four keepers, one is a 3-pounder

FSU - Garret Sanders and Owen Kuhn - three keepers

Winona State University - Chase Pomeroy and Colton Haney - two keepers

Emanuel College - Jonah Gilbert and Joe Mitchell - three keepers, two of them around 3 pounds

Adrian College - Jacob Emery and Collin Torrey - two little ones, lost a giant on a bed

Bethel University - John Garrett and Kyle Palmer - three keepers

University of Montevallo - James Willoughby and Chance Schwartz - four keepers for 10 pounds

University of Montevallo - Weston Hollar and Wesley Gore - two keepers

University of Montevallo - Cade Holcomb and Kopeland Rosser - one 3-pounder

Bryan College - Andrew Fisher and Bennett Kudder - one 3-pounder

Adams Leads at Martin

Adams Leads at Martin

Catching fish wasn’t going to be the issue for the third stop of the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit event on Lake Martin and after day one that certainly was the case. With the entire field catching a limit, the weights are stacked with a little over 4 pounds separating 100th and 10th. Finding a Lake Martin kicker was Barron Adams, who sacked 17 pounds, 2 ounces to take the lead – thanks in large part to his 8-13 Berkley Big Bass. Just 15 ounces back is Derrick Snavely and the weights tighten up a lot from there. READ MORE »

FLW Shifts Start Date at Lake Martin

FLW announced today that this week’s Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit event at Lake Martin, originally scheduled to start Thursday, has been shifted and will now begin competition Wednesday. Hosted by the Alexander City Chamber, the tournament will remain a four-day event and will now run through Saturday. This decision is based on a desire to allow pros, who began practicing for the tournament March 15, to safely complete the event and return home as quickly as possible amid evolving COVID-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control. Top 10 Baits and Patterns from Havasu

Top 10 Baits and Patterns from Havasu

Results from the Toyota Series Western Division event at Lake Havasu probably didn’t surprise any Western anglers who are familiar with the fishery. For folks in other parts of the country that might only have followed FLW’s early February events on the Colorado River reservoir, the tournament results might have opened some eyes to just how good the fishing can be on Havasu. Particularly on day one, the lake delivered, kicking out 12 limits of more than 20 pounds, including Tai Au’s limit of 26 pounds, 1 ounce. The success on day one resulted from a perfect storm of conditions for catching spawning bass on beds.  READ MORE »

Lake Havasu Midday Update – Day 2

Lake Havasu Midday Update – Day 2

After an afternoon and evening of intense rainfall yesterday, the Lake Havasu City area finally got a break from the precipitation today. But instead of rain, the anglers fishing the Toyota Series Western Division opener on Lake Havasu have had to deal with a stiff southerly wind that’s made it tough to sight-fish, some dirtier water in areas (particularly in the upper end) and a drop in water temperature of a couple of degrees. Not surprisingly of a post-frontal day, the fishing has been much more difficult so far on Friday.  READ MORE »
