Day one of the YETI FLW College Fishing Open on Kentucky Lake was nothing short of incredible when it comes to the fishing. There were 21 bags of 20 pounds or better brought to the stage at Moors Resort & Marina. Heck, even a respectable 15 pounds put you in the 40s. Proof that there are plenty of bass that still call the famed Tennessee River impoundment home.
The weather was also seasonal on day one, with temperatures in the upper 50s, partly cloudy conditions and 5 to 10 mph wind. Day two, on the other hand, will be a stark contrast.
While the teams blasting off this morning were greeted with warmer weather, the wind is the real issuse. It's supposed to kick up throughout the day, and tournament officials decided to move weigh-in to noon instead of 3:30 p.m. CT. The move should get anglers back to weigh-in before the wind is really supopsed to rip.
“We basically made the decision with the safety of our anglers being most important,” says YETI FLW College Fishing Tournament Director Kevin Hunt. “The wind is going to blow in the high teens and 20s out of the south-southeast, and that’s one of the worst winds on this lake. We wanted to let them fish, but keep safety in mind, so we’re bringing them in earlier.”
The first flight is due in at noon, with the last flight checking in at 12:45 p.m. CT. Tune into the weigh-in to see if McKendree University’s Blake Jackson and Trevor McKinney can build on their 23-11 day-one limit and withhold the charge from the pile of teams just ounces behind them.
