The second day of the Costa FLW Series Central Division event on Lake of the Ozarks – presented by Evinrude – has kept the fall feeling with temperatures in the upper 40s and added a mix of heavy clouds, rain and fog throughout much of the day – a major shift in conditions from yesterday.

Adjusting to the conditions is big on any body of water, but it is especially true in the Ozarks. Scrapping the game plan that provided the previous day for something brand new is often the recipe for success.

We started the day covering leader Joey Cifuentes, who was still running docks in a major creek. Working them over thoroughly with a shaky head and jig, Cifuentes managed only two decent keepers before we left him. Clouds, rain and no wind aren’t exactly the perfect recipe to catch dock fish, though he seems committed to the pattern.

From there we ran into local stick Casey Scanlon who got off to quick start this morning with a small limit, but said the bite died around mid-morning.

Kansas pro Kyle Alsop weighed four bass worth 11 pounds yesterday, but is already off to better start today. He’s got a 5- or 6-pounder in the box and a limit pushing 15 pounds, with plenty of time left to fish.

Overall, there were still plenty of guys fishing docks with jigs, Texas rigs or shaky heads and we did see some more topwaters being thrown given the conditions, but not much action.

Due to the sheer size of Lake of the Ozarks, we weren’t able to track down any of the other top pros. For those with experience on this lake – especially locals – look for them to take advantage of changing conditions and jump on a new pattern to climb up the leaderboard. On the other side, you can bet there will be some guys sliding down the standings as well.

Tune in at 3 p.m. CT to watch the live weigh-in to see what new faces pop into the top 10 and who faded out, as well as who will punch their ticket to the Costa FLW Series Championship Nov. 1-3 on Lake Guntersville.
