Culler Goes Finesse on Muskegon

Culler Goes Finesse on Muskegon
Eric Culler

Eric Culler of Hudson, Indiana, brought a five-bass limit to the scale Saturday weighing 17 pounds, 1 ounce, to win the T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Michigan Division tournament on Muskegon Lake. For his efforts, Culler pocketed $3,641.

Culler sayts he headed north to White Lake to catch his fish Saturday. His primary lure was a Texas-rigged 7-inch Watermelon Red-colored Zoom Trick Worm on a split-shot rig. He also used a wacky-rigged Watermelon Red Yamamoto Senko.

“I caught most of my fish in 13 to 15 feet of water,” says Culler, who earned his first win in FLW competition. “The area had a slight inside turn and then it came back out to a small little point. There was wood and grass on the point and it seemed like the bigger ones were keying in on the wood more than anything. You could catch smaller fish around it, but that’s where the bigger ones were.”

Culler used a 7-foot, 1-inch medium-heavy G. Loomis rod with a Daiwa reel and 10-pound-test Seaguar InvizX fluorocarbon line. He credits the side scanning feature on his Humminbird Helix electronics unit with helping him get dialed in to his area as well.

“I caught around 10 keepers. It was a slow presentation – they didn’t want the bait moving that much,” says Culler. “I’d just let it lay there and then they’d pick it up and swim off. It was a late bite, too. They started biting around 10 or 10:30 (a.m.) and then I caught them regularly until 1 p.m.”

Champlain Midday Update – Day 3

Champlain Midday Update – Day 3

While day two was windy and rough, day three has pretty much been calm from the get-go. It has also been hot as blazes. It’s made fishing a little tougher than expected, with a lot of anglers reporting missed or lost fish and a generally slower bite. That said, a slow bite on Champlain is a great bite most everywhere else, so we’re still going to see plenty of bass. READ MORE »

Lake Champlain Top 5 Patterns – Day 2

One of the windier tournament days in recent memory did a lot to reshape the leaderboard of the Costa FLW Series event on Lake Champlain. Lake Champlain Top 5 Patterns – Day 1

Lake Champlain Top 5 Patterns – Day 1

Last year, every event in the Costa FLW Series Northern Division, which is presented by Gajo Baits, was won entirely with smallmouth bass. This season, the kickoff event on Champlain, which is presented by Polaris, looks destined to involve some largemouths. Everyone in the top five weighed green ones on day one, though somewhat surprisingly, the south end down by Ticonderoga didn’t play an overwhelming role, as only three of the top 10 anglers made the long run southward.
