Sometimes the simplest plan is the best plan, like it was for co-angler Ronny Webb this week at the FLW Tour event presented by Costa Sunglasses on Kentucky Lake.

Webb, of Dyersburg, Tenn., won the co-angler division with nine bass that weighed 26 pounds, 14 ounces. He weighed in a limit worth 17-7 on Thursday, and four bass for 9-7 today.

“The first day I fished with Chad Morgenthaler, and we fished deep. I fished with Gary Yamamoto today, and we fished shallow,” says Webb.

The “simple” aspect of his game plan was to fish a couple of co-angler staples with long histories of producing check-winning limits on the Tennessee River: a 1/2-ounce football-head jig with a Strike King Rage Craw trailer, which he dragged on ledges on day one, and a shaky head with a Zoom Trick Worm for fishing around shallow cover in 1 to 3 feet on day two.

“This is the first Tour event I’ve fished,” adds Webb, a two-time T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League All-American qualifier, who had previously never won an FLW tournament. “I’d like to tell my wife I finally got it. It feels good. This might make momma proud of me.”
