Day two of the Costa FLW Series Southwestern Division event on Sam Rayburn, which is presented by YETI, started off a bit foggy on some parts of the lake, but the fog quickly burned off and the morning settled into the same sort of mild, overcast conditions as day one, minus the wind.

The usual Rayburn hot spots – Deer Stand, Canyons, Bird Island, Harvey and the Forest – were busy Friday morning. Caney Creek, however, appeared to be empty.

Cranking or dragging drains or shallow flats with grass seemed to be producing for some anglers, but not as well as yesterday. Fourth-place angler Christopher Jones – who stuck a 9-pound, 5-ounce giant to take big bass honors on day one – had a limit for 13-plus pounds, but commented that he’d not had the big bites he did yesterday and would have liked to have some sun and wind.

Leader Kevin Laysone, who dropped 31 pounds, six ounces on day one, decided to stick with what got him there, returning Friday to the same area that produced for him on day one, and throwing the same jig that caught his monster bag.

“This is the only area I’ve got where I’ve caught big fish, so I’m mostly going to stay here and give ‘em a chance to bite today.”

Lasyone had three fish in the boat for around 11 pounds by mid-morning.

Elsewhere, Todd Castledine, who sits at 10th place, had two solid keepers early, while Kris Wilson – in second behind Lasyone – had four small keepers.

Rayburn’s day one numbers were downright gaudy: 168 limits, 1,001 fish, and a total weight of 2,578 pounds, 3 ounces of bass. And that was just on the pro side. How will day two compare? Will there be big changes on the leaderboard, or will the frontrunners solidify their positions? Watch the weigh-in live, beginning at 3 p.m. CT on flwfishing.com, to find out.
