You can almost hear Sinatra crooning “I did it my way” when Texas co-angler Dan Wilson describes his victory at the Costa FLW Series Southwestern Division event presented by Frabill.

“I don’t ever pay any attention to what my boater is doing,” Wilson says. “I just look at what’s in front of me, and I make a decision on what I want to throw.

“When we went to our first spot today, my boater wanted to throw some topwater baits, but I didn’t ask him what he was throwing. I knew what I wanted to throw. I like popping baits.”

Arming himself with a shad-colored Strike King KVD Splash, Wilson caught all of his final-round keepers on the noisy topwater. Essential to his success was a healthy dose of impatience.

“Normally, within the first two or three pops, they’ve got it. If they don’t, you might as well wind in and start all over again. I’ve done that numerous times – one, two, three, boom. You never get one to follow you home.”

Notching his fourth win, Wilson caught his fish over long, flat points. He fished his popper on 10-pound-test Seaguar fluorocarbon in concert with a high rod posture to create the right popping action.
