There was a little rain before takeoff, but it passed quickly and left the Potomac brisk and sparkling with sun. Though still fairly breezy, day two of the Costa FLW Series presented by Plano has been phenomenally comfortable. Some of the pros were hoping for a little more cloud cover to prolong a morning bite, but clouds were in short supply for most of the morning, and even at noon, they’re still more scattered than anything else.

Gregory Wilder got to work quickly on day two. Throwing a finesse worm, he had a limit for about 13 pounds (with three 3-pounders or better) by about 7:45 a.m. Wilder says the morning bite was essentially gravy, and that he caught almost all his weight on day one in the afternoon. Though he hadn’t made any improvements by about 10:30, there’s a lot of day left for him to upgrade. At the very least, he’s probably assured himself a place in the top 10.

The rest of the leaders aren’t doing nearly as well, but the afternoon was key for many on day one, so it’s hardly set in stone that there will be a lot of turnover. In second, Jason Kervin was having a tough morning and had nothing in the boat at about 9 o’clock. In third, Mike Hicks was doing better, with three fish (two big ones) plucked from the grass in Aquia fairly early. Scott Wiley got off to a similarly slow start, and had just one in the boat by mid-morning. In fifth and sixth respectively, William Kramer had just three dinks around noon and Bob Izumi had a limit of squeakers.

Elsewhere, Ronald Martinez Jr., had a decent start with three keepers and one kicker. Craig Livesay had one at about 9 a.m. Finally, Alexander Wilson Sr., had two keepers in the boat about mid-morning.
