MINNEAPOLIS – Ron Green of Newport, Oregon, accumulated the most points of any Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) Fantasy Fishing player worldwide to win $5,000 after last week’s FLW Tour event at the Potomac River presented by Costa Sunglasses in Marbury, Maryland. Green won by assembling a team of anglers and earning points based on their performance in the FLW Tour fishing tournament.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the results,” said Green. “I checked my score on Friday night and I was in 84th place. On Sunday night I logged back in and it said I had won it all. I’ve played since 2014 and I think the best I’ve ever done was maybe 170th or something like that.”

Green said he relied on a core group of his favorite anglers to carry his team.

“I usually have five anglers that I always go with, and then I’m hunting for value picks,” said Green. “Pros like Bryan Thrift, Andy Morgan, Shinichi Fukae, and Cody Meyer all made the team. I picked Mike Surman and Jason Meninger because of their value and it ended up working out great.”

Finishing in second place was Stephen Noble of Newport, Kentucky, who took home $1,000, and in third place was Jamie Bruce of Kenora, Ontario, Canada, who pocketed $500.

Other winners from across the globe were awarded prizes including cash, ShopFLW gift cards, hats and baits.

The 2017 Fantasy Fishing season consists of eight tournaments surrounding the FLW Tour regular season including the season-ending Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing. Fans compete for more than $7,000 in cash and prizes from each of the seven tournaments, including a top prize of $5,000. The grand prize for the highest ranked player at the end of the season is $10,000.
