MINNEAPOLIS – John Ax of Eufaula, Alabama, accumulated the most points of any Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) Fantasy Fishing player worldwide after last week’s FLW Tour event at Lake Cumberland presented by T-H Marine in Somerset, Kentucky. Ax won $5,000 by assembling a team of anglers and earning points based on their performance in the FLW Tour fishing tournament.

“It blew me away when I found out that I won,” said Ax. “I’ve been playing since the game’s inception, and I think the best I’ve ever finished was somewhere in the 700 or 800s. I’ve missed a tournament here or there in the past, but this year I decided to try and play through all of the events.”

Ax said the anglers he picked for his Lake Cumberland lineup had some momentum heading into the tournament, a factor he considered important.

“When you’ve got a field of world-class anglers like this, it’s a thin line between what makes one better than the next,” said Ax. “I looked at average finishes and selected who I thought could keep up their momentum. It’s really hard to pick the top 10.”

Ax went on to say that he also utilized the Member’s Advantage tools found on the FLW Fantasy Fishing website before he made his decisions.

“I chose John Devere after looking through the Pundit Picks section,” said Ax. “I also looked back to records from Beaver Lake, which is a similar fishery to Lake Cumberland. Scott Martin has done really well targeting smallmouths, so that’s why I picked him for this derby.”

Finishing in second place was Michael Brooks of Covington, Georgia, who took home $1,000, and in third place was Isaac Coffman of McKinney, Kentucky, who won $500.

A contingent of other winners from across the globe was awarded prizes including cash, ShopFLW gift cards, hats and baits.

The 2017 Fantasy Fishing season consists of eight tournaments surrounding the FLW Tour regular season including the season-ending Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing. Fans compete for more than $7,000 in cash and prizes from each of the seven tournaments and a top prize of $5,000. The cumulative grand prize for the highest ranked player at the end of the season is $10,000.
