Old Man Winter showed up late to the party on day one of the Costa FLW Series Southeastern Division event on Lake Seminole presented by Mud Hole Custom Tackle this morning. An overnight frontal passage left behind howling north winds of nearly 20 mph, creating a sudden flip flop in the wind direction from practice and a drop in daytime highs of some 15 degrees.

This forced anglers into very tight quarters seeking shelter from the wind. Several areas had as many as 10 or 15 boats looking to get out of the rolling swells. Many anglers were seen working main lake bays and sandbars that were in the lee.

Due to having very little winter when winter should have been here, much of Seminole’s backwaters are already thick with vegetation. As a result, the majority of the bass left spawning are on sandbars and inside grass lines along the main lake.

Pros seen sacking up some early fish included Troy Gibson, Bradford Beavers, Pete Thliveros, Nick Thliveros and Sandy Melvin. Chad Prough got off to a good start with his first bass being in the 5- to 6-pound class and former Lake Seminole winner Clint Brown already had a solid limit up to about 16 pounds by 11 o’clock.

Conditions are tough on the lake for sure, but expect Seminole to still showcase what it has to offer come weigh-in this afternoon. Be sure to check out all of the action at 3 p.m. ET and see how it all unfolds.
