MINNEAPOLIS – Nicholas Hilbert of Athol, Idaho, accumulated the most points of any Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) Fantasy Fishing player worldwide after last week’s FLW Tour event on Lake Travis presented by Quaker State in Jonestown, Texas. Hilbert won $5,000 by assembling a team of anglers and earning points based on their performance in the FLW Tour fishing tournament.

“This is the first tournament I’ve ever picked an FLW fantasy team for, and I won,” said Hilbert. “It was completely unexpected. I thought people had to buy their way into a league to win cash prizes, but I was wrong. It was free to play and I ended up winning a lot of money.”

Hilbert said he made his picks based on the career earnings of FLW anglers, which are found on the FLW website.

“I liked anglers who had earned a lot in their fishing careers,” said Hilbert. “I kept narrowing my team down to who I could afford within the game’s salary cap.”

Hilbert said he plans on playing FLW Fantasy Fishing again this season.

“I’ll look at who scored well at Lake Travis and put them on my next team,” said Hilbert. “It could turn around on me, though, and someone who I didn’t pick could end up scoring well. It’s all part of the game.”

Finishing in second place was Matthew Alexander of Simpsonville, South Carolina, who won $1,000, and in third place was Tim Walker of Eufaula, Alabama, who won $500.

Several other winners from across the globe took home prizes including cash, ShopFLW gift cards, hats and baits.

The 2017 Fantasy Fishing season consists of eight tournaments surrounding the FLW Tour regular season including the season-ending Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing. Fans compete for more than $7,000 in cash and prizes from each of the seven tournaments and a top prize of $5,000. The cumulative grand prize for the highest ranked player at the end of the season is $10,000.
