Graham Dominates the Barren River

Graham Dominates the Barren River
Brett Graham

Brett Graham of Cold Spring, Kentucky, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 16 pounds, 6 ounces, Sunday to win the FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Mountain Division Super Tournament on the Barren River with a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 31 pounds, 5 ounces. Graham earned $8,211 for his efforts.

“I went into this tournament wanting to target shallow fish,” says Graham, who earned his second win in FLW competition. “It can be tough to find them deep this time of year.

“On Saturday, I went into a creek on the north end of the lake that I had found in practice,” Graham continues. “There was a small area holding fish. I used a white buzzbait and flipped Texas-rigged soft-plastic craws into wood, logjams and laydowns. I had a limit by 9:30 a.m. I spent the rest of the day in that sweet spot trying to cull.

“On day two I returned to the creek and worked my way back there,” says Graham. “I caught three keepers in five minutes using the same Texas-rigged craws from Saturday. I lost a 4-pounder mid-morning, but I knew there was enough good bass in there to grind out another limit. We worked the entire area over.”

Around 10:30 a.m., Graham went to the very end of his spot and caught a fish nearing 5 pounds.

“At that point, I thought I had a good chance to win,” says Graham. “I was lucky to have my fish cooperate with me for two days in a row.”

New Dominates Seminole Regional

New Dominates Seminole Regional

Belmont, N.C., angler Bryan New, who’s regularly one of FLW’s top performers in the grassroots ranks, had established a dominant pace. New weighed in 22 pounds, 9 ounces on day one and added 20-2 on day two to carry a lead of 6 pounds, 15 ounces into the finals. A roughly 7-pound margin isn’t necessarily a sure thing on Seminole, but the fall bite was a bit slower than what the lake can produce, and it was obvious New was cruising. READ MORE »
