After a small frontal passage overnight, day two of the Costa FLW Series presented by Mercury and hosted by Florence/Lauderdale Tourism dawned much cooler and crisper, like a fall day with light 5 to 10 mph winds out of the northwest.

The tournament leaders went right back to catching fish, though. Kim Carver got off to a nice start with a 4-pounder and had three fish for about 9 to 10 pounds. Tournament leader Shane Powell was working his way to a limit with four bass, two of them pretty decent keepers. Bryan New had a limit with a heavy 2-pounder as his kicker. Mike Miller had two keepers early, even before he had reached his best area. Wes Logan had three fish, but one was a 4-pounder. Jared Dial had four solid keepers. Reportedly, Sam George has a monster limit, caught out deep.

Despite George’s reported success, most pros were fishing shallow patterns around grass and wood and some were working spotty patches of the shad spawn. Up the Elk River, where many of the leaders fish, the water had dropped just a tad overnight, though it didn’t appear to be affecting the bite.
