Anglers finally got their wish of sunshine today but it came with cold front. It was 38 degrees at the 6:30 takeoff out of Konocti Vista Resort Casino & Marina.

The leaders struggled early today. Frontrunner Todd Woods ran several community holes early this morning and only came by one keeper before returning to his primary areas. He had three small fish when our on the water crew left him around 9 a.m.

Second place Michael Caruso was using a drop-shot around docks this morning. He had 10 pounds when we left him at 11 a.m. Caruso mentioned yesterday that his bite was an afternoon deal, so watch for him to move up.

Jim Moulton ran moving baits this morning to get a small early limit for 10 pounds. He returned to sight-fishing in the afternoon.  Many of the fish seemed to move back off beds due to the cold but Moulton caught a three-pounder from behind a bush. He had 12 pounds the last time we checked in.

That leaves the door wide open for the rest of the top-10 anglers make a surge up the leaderboard. The best bag we know of comes from Roy Hawk. He has 26 pounds. Hawk had motor troubles this morning and only had the use of his trolling motor. In a small creek mouth near takeoff, he amassed the weight using a chatterbait and swimbait.

It’s going to be a close one! Tune in to the weigh-in at 3 p.m. PT and see who gets crowned the Clear Lake champion.
