As predicted, Grand Lake became crowded quickly this morning shortly after takeoff of the Costa FLW Series event presented by Evinrude and hosted by the City of Grove.

Running down the main lake, Grand looked desolate, but once you nosed your way back into any narrow creek pocket, two or three boats could be seen fishing the back ends of the pockets and cuts. Docks in the pockets were getting a lot of attention with jigs and creature baits and the flat rounded secondary points were getting grinded with crankbaits. The wind, which was predicted to blow some 20 mph, did not materialize until noon and even then it was not as bad as originally forecasted.

Shonn Goodwin of Moore, Okla., was working docks thoroughly and had two bass early. Terry Ezell of El Reno, Okla., reported having one good fish to start the day. Theron Caldwell of Colleyville, Texas was on the board with a couple of keepers. Quaker State pro Matt Arey of Shelby, N.C., “blind fishing” bedding bass and had three for about 8 pounds. James Watson of Nixa, Mo., was off to a nice start with 15 pounds.

Be sure to tune in for the live weigh-in starting at 3 p.m. CT.
