Contending with ultra-clear water and picking through loads of small fish presented a challenge for the 54 teams competing in the 2016 FLW College Fishing National Championship on Lake Keowee. The University of South Carolina’s Chris Blanchette and Hampton Anderson won the event by targeting spotted bass with Yamamoto Senkos fished around stumps in 5 to 7 feet of water on clay banks, and by looking for largemouths bedding and cruising in creeks with lots of woody cover. Anderson Wins College Fish-Off

National Championship fish-off – dubbed the Battle of the Champions. A day prior, the teamwork and kinship shared by Chris Blanchette and Hampton Anderson enabled the University of South Carolina anglers to best 53 other teams in the National Championship on Lake Keowee. Today, less than 24 hours after securing their school’s second consecutive College Fishing national title, Blanchette and Anderson found themselves fishing in separate boats on Lake Russell, with only each other as competition.
