The top 10 anglers fishing the championship round of the Rayovac FLW Series Central Division event presented by Evinrude on Kentucky Lake had to dodge midmorning showers and thunderstorms sweeping across from the west. As has been the case the previous two days, some of the contestants had their limits early and were upgrading, while others were scrambling to catch five 15-inch keepers.

Tom Redington, Mark Rose, Clent Davis, Brandon Hunter were culling most of the morning, but the rest of the field was ranging up and down the lake trying to catch up. Redington, in particular, had a very rewarding morning. He’s 1 pound, 9 ounces behind the leader, Randy Haynes, who has 47-15.

As is his usual custom, Haynes didn’t linger on any of his ledge spots this morning, but the Tennessee pro did stop long enough to say he had a “small limit.” Here again, it’s been the nature of the ledge bite on Kentucky Lake this week that some fish are firing up early, while others seem to be responding best to a high sun. The problem today is that there is no sun, and the partly cloudy weather – coupled with lack of current – could  impact the afternoon bite.

Of the 10 anglers in contention for the championship, the majority are fishing south of the Highway 68 Bridge, with the “community holes” between Blood River and the powerlines below the Paris Landing Bridge favored destinations.

Today’s championship weigh-in starts at 3 p.m. CT at the Walmart parking lot in Benton, Ky.
