Cal Delta Midday Update Day 3

Cal Delta Midday Update Day 3

It’s way too close to call with just an hour left to fish on the California Delta, as the final 10 vie for the title at stop No. 2 of the Rayovac FLW Series Western Division. After yesterday’s weigh-in, the margin between first place and 10th was only 1 pound, 6 ounces. You might as well call it even.

Word on the water today is that the pro who can break the 20-pound mark is probably the one who’ll go home with the hardware. The reaction bite was slow across the board this morning, except for little fish – they’re chomping as usual. Most competitors that the On The Water team watched were flipping and fishing slowly with finesse plastics.

Joe Uribe Jr. lost a pretty good keeper early and was finishing up a small limit at about 8:45. Austin Bonjour also caught a small early limit but probably had less than 10 pounds at 10 a.m. Bub Tosh, who dumped a 10-pound giant yesterday, hadn’t located any big ones by lunchtime. He had about 13 or 14 pounds in the livewell.

Ken Mah seems to have the hottest hand right now. He was winding a buzzbait and punching thick beds of hyacinth in the waning hours of the tournament and had three quality bass and two squeakers in the livewell. His confidence was high, and he thinks that if he can cull out the two babies, he’ll have a legitimate shot at winning. Mah did have one chance about an hour ago but lost a keeper that short-striked his buzzbait.

There’s a light wind blowing and plenty of sunshine today. The flipping and topwater bites should stay good right up until the end. A Western Division FLW College Fishing weigh-in is about to begin here at Russo’s, so we should get a better idea of how the bite was across the Cal Delta today.

The final Rayovac FLW Series weigh-in starts at 2:30 p.m. PT. Check it out on FLW Live at FLWFishing.com.

Champlain Midday Update – Day 3

Champlain Midday Update – Day 3

While day two was windy and rough, day three has pretty much been calm from the get-go. It has also been hot as blazes. It’s made fishing a little tougher than expected, with a lot of anglers reporting missed or lost fish and a generally slower bite. That said, a slow bite on Champlain is a great bite most everywhere else, so we’re still going to see plenty of bass. READ MORE »

Lake Champlain Top 5 Patterns – Day 2

Lake Champlain Top 5 Patterns – Day 2

One of the windier tournament days in recent memory did a lot to reshape the leaderboard of the Costa FLW Series event on Lake Champlain. The run south to Ticonderoga was not impossible, but the wind up north kept a lot of pros from effectively fishing their best stuff. That made weights drop pretty much across the board on day two. Behind him, Scott Dobson rose from ninth to second with a robust bag of smallmouths worth 18-10 for a 37-14 total. READ MORE »

Lake Champlain Top 5 Patterns – Day 1

Lake Champlain Top 5 Patterns – Day 1

Last year, every event in the Costa FLW Series Northern Division, which is presented by Gajo Baits, was won entirely with smallmouth bass. This season, the kickoff event on Champlain, which is presented by Polaris, looks destined to involve some largemouths. Everyone in the top five weighed green ones on day one, though somewhat surprisingly, the south end down by Ticonderoga didn’t play an overwhelming role, as only three of the top 10 anglers made the long run southward.
