Brown Targets Docks for Title

Lockler crowned top co-angler on Norman

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Christopher Brown of Lexington, North Carolina, weighed a two-day total of 10 bass totaling 25 pounds, 13 ounces to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League North Carolina Division Super Tournament on Lake Norman Sunday. For his victory, Brown earned $6,077.

“I caught all of my fish on a green pumpkin with blue flake-colored Zoom Trick Worm on a 1/4-ounce Dave’s Tournament Tackle Shakey Head,” said Brown, who earned his first BFL tournament win. “I caught them fishing docks above the Highway 150 bridge, from 4- to 10-feet deep. There wasn’t really a lot of rhyme or reason to it. I was just fishing docks that I’d caught fish on in practice. It did seem that docks on points were key, and if the end of the dock was in more than about 10 feet of water I wouldn’t catch one on it.

“I caught about 20 keepers overall,” Brown continued. “I was fortunate and caught a 5-pound largemouth on both days. A 5-pounder on Lake Norman is like gold. I also had a big spotted bass on Saturday that was pretty close to 4 pounds.

“It feels great to win,” finished Brown. “I’ve fished a lot of BFL tournaments, but my track record has never been that good. High Rock Lake is my home lake, so it feels good to win somewhere other than home.”

Lockler nets co-angler title

Adam Lockler of Charlotte, North Carolina, weighed in a two-day total of nine bass totaling 18 pounds, 3 ounces to win $2,539 in the co-angler division Sunday.

The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 9-11 Regional Championship on Lake Cherokee in Morristown, Tennessee. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
