Football season

Football season

NFL playoffs are just around the corner. But flash forward a few weeks from now and football fans may be feeling a bit of a letdown while sweeping up after those Super Bowl parties. However, unlike their gridiron counterparts, bass anglers know that their football – specifically, the football head jig – will remain a relevant part of their lives year-round. READ MORE »

Damiki announces Anchovy Shad’s arrival

Damiki announces Anchovy Shad’s arrival

First introduced at ICAST 2012, the Damiki Anchovy Shad has generated significant buzz ever since. This 4-inch, soft-plastic swimbait was made with schooling baitfish in mind and is an obvious choice for anglers utilizing the umbrella rig. Designed to mimic smaller baitfish that travel in groups, the Anchovy Shad is a great combination of faint contours in body line with an extra large rounded paddle tail that creates that struggling bait-fish movement that bass can’t resist. When second best is a success

When second best is a success

I’ll admit it; I’m a Senko aficionado. My friends, family and even co-workers chide me for how often I throw Yamamoto’s famous soft-plastic stickbait. Guess what? I don’t care. Mock me all you want, but if you’re a serious bass fisherman, you appreciate the efficacy of the Senko. It’s simple, and in the spring, it’s nearly impossible to beat. READ MORE »

Back Story: David Fritts, world-class pumpkin grower

Fritts’ focus wavers momentarily from bass and tackle. This time of year, he’s in to pumpkins – big time. Back home in the Carolina Piedmont, the Fritts family is known far and wide for the quality and quantity of the pumpkins it grows: large ones and little ones in every shape, texture and hue. Pumpkins seemingly bubble out of the ground on the Fritts farm near Lexington, N.C., and most of them – upwards of 75,000 per year – will wind up on somebody’s stoop at Halloween or in somebody’s home at Thanksgiving as a decoration or in a pie. ICAST impressions

ICAST impressions

While I’ve watched ICAST from afar for many years, the 2012 show was the first I attended in person. My foremost impression is that you cannot appreciate the true scope of the event unless you’re physically present. The sheer size of the show is overwhelming with over 400 exhibitors and 375,000 feet of show room floor, which makes for incredibly sore human hoofs by the end of the 8-hour day. The theme of the week was growth. Fishing license sales are up and both exhibitors and buyers were optimistic about continued industry growth. This is all great news. READ MORE »
