MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Cherokee Lake Sept. 17-18 for its fifth and final stop in the Volunteer Division. This is a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.

“We’ve had a lot of rain, somewhere around 10 inches,” said Walmart pro Wesley Strader of Spring City, Tenn. “The water is falling so fast that the fish are relocating every day. Cherokee will fish decent, but you have to be able to adjust to the fast-moving fish.

“You can basically catch them any way you want to, but when the water starts falling, there are places you just can’t go,” Strader added. “There will be one or two really good stringers caught, but otherwise I would shoot for 12 to 13 pounds per day – that would be my target.”

Takeoffs will be at the Hamblin County Boat Dock located in Cherokee Park at 3045 Cherokee Park Road in Morristown at 7 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Walmart located at 475 South Davy Crockett Parkway in Morristown. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Cherokee Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
