CLAYTON, N.Y. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to 1000 Islands Sept. 10-11 for its fifth and final stop in the Northeast Division. This will be a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.

“1000 Islands is always good,” said Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes pro Dave Lefebre of Union City, Pa. “It’s definitely going to be a slugfest tournament no matter what time of year you go there. As far as diversity in techniques that could play, it’s one of the best.

“It’s a good mixture of largemouth and smallmouth, so either one could win the tournament,” Lefebre added. “If the smallmouths move shallow, it’ll be jerkbaits and spinnerbaits that will start to work, but if not, if it stays warm and doesn’t kick into fall yet, your typical tubes and drop-shots will come into play. It wouldn’t surprise me to see 45 pounds or more win the tournament; it’s a killer place to fish, especially this time of year.”

Takeoffs will be at the French Creek Marina located at 250 Wahl St. in Clayton at 7 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walmart located at 20823 N.Y. State Route 3 in Watertown. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The 1000 Islands BFL tournament is also being hosted by the French Creek Marina.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
