LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to the Mississippi River Sept. 10-11 for its fifth and final stop in the Great Lakes Division. This will be a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.

“There’s a lot of fish, and they’re dumb,” joked La Crosse pro and native Tom Monsoor. “You can do pretty much anything you want out here.

“The smallies are biting on the river really well, and the big mouths are hitting frogs and stuff in the weeds,” Monsoor added. “Also, some kind of finesse jig can be used out on the wing dams. I think somewhere between 32 and 34 pounds will win, but it could be even higher if some guys really get on them. If you have a favorite way of fishing, that’s all you need to do.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at West Copeland-Clinton Street Boat Ramp located on Clinton Street in La Crosse. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
