SHELBYVILLE, Ill. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Shelbyville April 30 for the first of five stops in the Illini Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“Shelbyville is a shallow-water fishery, so guys are going to be looking for cover,” said Indiana National Guard pro Wes Thomas of Hanover, Ind. “And all the rain that we’ve had has really colored the water. But even with all of the rain, fishing will still be good. Guys will be using spinnerbaits and even square-bill crankbaits in that shallow water to catch their fish.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at 9th Street Ramp in Shelbyville, Ill. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Lake Shelbyville BFL tournament is being hosted by the Greater Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for the regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
