ELBERTON, Ga. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Russell March 27 for the second of five stops in the Savannah River Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

In 2009, Scott Browning of Franklin, N.C., won the Lake Russell event by targeting spawning fish with a topwater floating worm. The previous year, James Edwards of Greenville, S.C., took first place by fishing points with a swimbait. Both of those tournaments, however, were held later in the year when fish were in spawn and postspawn modes.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Richard B. Russell State Park located at 2650 Russell State Park Road in Elberton, Ga. Takeoff is scheduled for 7:30 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 3:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
