Justin Royal of Vidor, Texas, and Troy Luce of Beaumont, Texas, from Lamar University caught two bass weighing 8 pounds, 7 ounces Saturday to win $10,000 in scholarships in the National Guard FLW College Texas Division tournament on Sam Rayburn Reservoir.

In second place was the team from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – Jacob Heath and Kennedy Schwartzburg, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, with three bass weighing 8-6.

Justin Royal and Troy Luce triumphed over a slow bass bite at Sam Rayburn Reservoir to win the National Guard FLW College Fishing Texas Division event.Third place belonged to Tarleton State University – Derek Doyle of Stephenville, Texas, and Seth Peugh of Grandview, Texas, with two bass weighing 8-3.

In fourth place was University of North Texas – Zach Sears of Corinth, Texas, and Brandon Dickenson of Flower Mound, Texas with three bass weighing 7-7.

Fifth place belonged to LSU-Shreveport – Zach Caudle and Joe Landry, both of Shreveport, La., with one bass weighing 7-1.

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi team of Jacob Heath and Kennedy Schwartzburg finished in second place overall at the FLW College Fishing event at Sam Rayburn Reservoir.Schools competing in this week’s tournament included: Angelo State, Baylor University, Lamar University, Louisiana Tech University, LSU, LSU-Shreveport, Northeastern State, Oklahoma State University, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana University, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton State Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Galveston, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas State University, University of Louisiana, University of North Texas, University of Oklahoma and University of Texas.

The next National Guard FLW College Texas Division tournament is scheduled for Feb. 13 at Cross Lake in Shreveport, La.

FLW Outdoors announced the College Fishing trail in May 2008. Full-time students enrolled in four year colleges or universities are eligible to participate in the events. Schools can send two-person teams to each of the four qualifying events in their division, with each event limited to a maximum of 40 teams. Each team has the opportunity to win $10,000 for first through $2,000 for fifth place. Prize money is split evenly between the winning team’s club and the school they represent. The tournaments are free to enter, boats and drivers are provided by FLW and all collegiate teams receive a travel allowance.

The top five teams from each tournament will qualify for a Regional Championship where the first-place team wins $25,000 cash for the school and a Ranger 177TR bass boat for the fishing club. The top five teams from each Regional will then advance to the National Championship where the first-place team wins $50,000 for their school and $25,000 cash and a Ranger 177TR bass boat for their fishing club.

The National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship is a three-day televised event hosting the top five teams from each regional, 25 total teams. Teams will be provided shirts and wrapped Ranger boats towed by Chevy trucks for this competition.

The winning team will be declared the National Guard FLW Collegiate National Champion and will qualify for the 2011 Forrest Wood Cup. The winners will also receive use of a wrapped boat and Chevy truck for cup competition.
