If you’re like many tournament-fishing fans interested in the rapidly growing sport of college bass fishing, the upcoming National Guard FLW College Fishing Regional on the California Delta offers a great opportunity to witness some of the nation’s top amateur anglers in action.
However, if you can’t make it in person to the upcoming Western Regional Championship, slated to take place Sept. 19-21 at the University of the Pacific, there’s good news – you can still catch all the tournament action live at CollegeFishing.com.
Throughout the three-day televised event, CollegeFishing.com will offer continual on-the-water updates such as live tournament catches, changing weather conditions and other compelling breaking news as it unfolds. Online visitors can also view each day’s FLW College Regional weigh-in in real time with the assistance of FLW Live – up-to-the-minute streaming video from the weigh-in stage courtesy of CollegeFishing.com.
College fishing fans will also find results, standings and photos of the Western Regional Championship continually updated on CollegeFishing.com throughout the course of the event.
What FLW College Fishing fans should know
The top five FLW College Fishing teams from each of the four regular-season Western Division tournaments gained automatic entry into the 2009 Western Regional Championship at the University of the Pacific. During the three-day regional event, 20 two-man collegiate angling teams will compete for a top award of $50,000, which includes a 177TR Ranger wrapped in school colors and powered by an Evinrude or Yamaha outboard engine.
Qualified teams include Arizona State University, Chico State, Fresno State, Humboldt State University, Sacramento State, San Jose State University, Sonoma State University, UC – Davis, University of Nevada – Reno, University of Oregon and Washington State.

Collegiate bass anglers will take off daily at 7 a.m. Pacific time from Buckley Cove Park at 4311 Buckley Cove Way in Stockton. Weigh-ins begin at 4 p.m. daily at the University of the Pacific Aquatics Center Parking Lot in Stockton. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free to attend and open to the public.
The top five teams from each of the five National Guard regional championships (Western, Central, Northern, Texas and Southeast) will advance to the National Guard National Championship April 10-12, 2010, in Knoxville, Tenn. The winning team at the national championship will qualify for the prestigious 2010 Forrest Wood Cup.
Additional festivities
For those who are able to attend the National Guard FLW College Fishing event at the University of the Pacific, don’t miss out on the Reel Life Festival featuring the National Guard Warrior Challenge, slated for Sept. 19-21 beginning at noon at the University of the Pacific Aquatics Center.
Also, on Friday, Sept. 18 from 2 to 6 p.m., music fans in attendance will be treated to the Battle of the Bands – a competition featuring some of the finest local musical talent in the area.
