Weiland wins TBF Mid-Atlantic Divisional

PRESQUE ISLE BAY, Pa. – New Jersey team member Scott Weiland of Saddle Brook, N.J., won The Bass Federation 2008 Mid-Atlantic Divisional Championship on Lake Erie Friday with a three-day total of 12 bass weighing 48 pounds, 13 ounces. For his victory, Weiland earned a $500 Wal-Mart gift card as the Castrol Maximum Performer.

Weiland opened the tournament Wednesday with four bass weighing 16-5. He added another four bass weighing 17-5 Thursday before catching four bass weighing 15-3 Friday to seal the win.

The top-finishing angler from each 12-person state team will advance to the 2009 TBF National Championship presented by the National Guard as a boater. Those advancing as boaters are Greg Alexander of Hebron, Md. (nine bass, 38-3); Dennis Pearl of Chesapeake, Va. (nine bass, 25-8); Brent McNeal of Huntingdon, Pa. (12 bass, 36-7); Bobby Williams of Washington, D.C. (11 bass, 35-9); Nathan Routzahn of Frederick, Md. (10 bass, 33-14); and Robert Harkness of Elizabeth, W.Va. (12 bass, 43-5).

The No. 2 competitor from each state team will advance to the National Championship as a co-angler. Those advancing as co-anglers are Tommy Dadds of Henderson, Md. (11 bass, 36-7); Bill Sanders of Baltimore, Md. (seven bass, 22-11); Nick Angiulo of Hainesport, N.J. (nine bass, 25-5); Steven Allard of Wattsburg, Pa. (12 bass, 34-15); Rueben Williams of Rice, Va. (11 bass, 27-10); Danny Shanz of Adamstown, Md. (12 bass, 33-11); and Eric Stewart of Anmoore, W.Va. (nine bass, 39-8).

West Virginia was the top-finishing team in this week’s divisional, taking home the traveling cup for bringing in 83 bass, weighing 278 pounds, 5 ounces over the three-day competition. Second place in team competition was New Jersey, with 74 bass, weighing 253 pounds, 15 ounces. Pennsylvania brought in 81 bass weighing 247 pounds, 15 ounces to claim the No. 3 spot.

TBF National Championship anglers will compete for a share of more than $200,000 in cash and merchandise, including a $100,000 “Living the Dream” prize package that includes use of a wrapped Chevy truck and Ranger boat powered by Evinrude or Yamaha, sponsor merchandise and entry fees into the Wal-Mart FLW Tour or Wal-Mart FLW Series. The top boater and co-angler from each of the TBF’s six divisions at the National Championship will receive a berth into the $1 million BFL All-American presented by Chevy, where boaters compete for a top award of $140,000 and co-anglers cast for a top award of $70,000. The winning boater and co-angler at the TBF National Championship will also advance to the $2 million Forrest Wood Cup presented by Castrol, where pros compete for a top award of $1 million and co-anglers fish for a top award of $50,000.
