SPRING CITY, Tenn. – Boater Dewayne Wilson of La Follette, Tenn., won the Walmart Bass Fishing League Volunteer Division Super Tournament on Watts Bar Lake with a two-day catch of eight bass weighing 23 pounds, 9 ounces. The victory earned Wilson $4,641.

Wilson said he caught the majority of his fish on a large soft plastic worm fishing mid-lake deep structure.

Rounding out the top five boaters are Jonathan Pelfrey of Rockwood, Tenn. (eight bass, 19-13, $2,730); Adam Johnston of Kingston, Tenn. (six bass, 16-14, $1,820); David Warfield of Dayton, Tenn. (five bass, 16-8, $1,274); and Lance Grigsby of Luttrell, Tenn. (four bass, 15-8, $1,092).

Derrick Blake of Rockwood took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $712 for a 6-pound, 1-ounce bass that he caught on a peanut butter and jelly jig in deep structure in Caney Creek.

Garry Collins of Russell Springs, Ky., earned $2,730 as the co-angler winner thanks to eight bass weighing 21 pounds, 12 ounces that he caught while fishing deep soft plastics and a Norman DD-22 deep-diving crankbait.

Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Darren Kelly of Wartburg, Tenn. (seven bass, 20-6, $1,365); Gregory Major of Knoxville, Tenn. (six bass, 17-13, $909); Bud McKelvey of Knoxville (five bass, 17-11, $637); and David Malone of Bluff City, Tenn. (six bass, 15-1, $546).

David Shreve of Knoxville earned $356 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 15-ounce bass.

Following the end of regular-season competition, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on year-end points standings in the division will advance to the no-entry-fee Lake Murray Regional Championship in Prosperity, S.C., Oct. 23-25, where they will compete against top qualifiers from three other BFL divisions. At the Regional Championship boaters will fish for a new 198VX Ranger boat and Chevy truck and co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger boat. The top six boaters and top six co-anglers at the Regional Championship will also advance to the 2009 All-American presented by Chevy. With a total purse of $1 million, a potential $140,000 cash prize going to the winning boater and as much as $70,000 going to the winning co-angler, the All-American is one of the most prestigious and lucrative events in bass fishing. The winning boater and winning co-angler at the All-American also advance to the no-entry-fee $2 million 2009 Forrest Wood Cup. This event, featuring a top award of $1 million, is the sport’s biggest championship.

The $8.8 million Walmart Bass Fishing League features 28 divisions nationwide. In BFL competition, boaters and co-anglers are randomly paired. Boaters supply the boat and fish from the front deck against other boaters while co-anglers compete from the back deck against other co-anglers.
