DEVILS LAKE, N.D. – With the safety of the anglers being their utmost concern Thursday, the FLW Outdoors tournament staff decided to cancel day two of Wal-Mart FLW Walleye Tour competition on Devils Lake.

Late Wednesday night a brutal cold front roared through North Dakota’s lake region, carrying dangerously high winds. According to the latest weather reports, sustained northerly winds of 30 mph were already in the area. Furthermore, forecasts predict sustained winds of 35 mph with gusts of up to 55 mph. While the winds were likely the main cause of the cancellation, severe thunderstorms are also being forecasted.

Sonny Reynolds, director of walleye operations, notified the field at approximately 7 a.m.

“Safety is our main priority,” Reynolds said. “Life and limb are more important than equipment and catching fish. Everyone will stay in today and get back after it again Friday.”

With no weigh-in Thursday, the leaderboard from day one for both the pros and co-anglers remained unchanged. That means pro leader Ron Erhard will lead the charge Friday with his day-one limit of 25 pounds, 4 ounces.

Tomorrow, anglers will be paired up with their day-three partners. Pairings are posted on the FLW Outdoors trailer, in the lobby of the hotel and on FLWOutdoors.com.

Weather cooperating, day three of FLW Walleye Tour competition on Devils Lake begins as the full field of 150 pros and 150 co-anglers take off from Spirit Lake Casino and Resort at 7 a.m. Central time Friday.
